MiniTennis – 1970s · Denmark
Originated as an accessible, adaptable format pairing a 21-inch racket with a 9 cm foam ball (or a full-size racket with an oversized 12 cm foam ball). Designed with an 85 cm net, it can be set up anywhere flat — from badminton and pickleball courts to car parks. It has served as the foundational entry point for both kids and adults across Scandinavia.
Touchtennis – 2002 · UK
Introduced on a compact 12m × 5m (singles) or 12m × 6m (doubles) court using a 21-inch racket and an 8 cm soft foam ball. Standard tennis scoring with sudden-death deuce, no-let serves and only one serve attempt elevated fast-paced tactical rallies to international circuits.
SkyBall – 2025 · USA
Played across standard pickleball court dimensions (13.4m × 6.1m) using strung 21-inch rackets paired with specialised high-density foam balls. Rally scoring to 11 points, an underhand serve rule, and freedom from non-volley “kitchen” zones once the two-bounce rule is met.
TYPTI – 2026 · USA
Contested on a 6.1m × 13.4m court with 22-inch rackets and 8.9 cm foam balls, using a unique “Stakes” scoring format (three consecutive points win the game). Hybrid athletic gameplay even permits creative ball strikes using body touches.
